Please pay attention to the following instructions:
- Do not eat before the feeling of numbness has subsided. You can eat normal food but take care to spare the wound area when chewing.
No smoking, no coffee and only little alcohol on the day of the extraction.
- It is normal for the wound area to hurt after the effect of the local anaesthetic has subsided. If necessary you can take a painkiller. If, however, severe pain sets in after one to three days you should contact your dentist immediately.
- Frequent rinsing and sucking at the wound is detrimental. Rinse after eating with some boiled salt water. Do not touch the wound.
- Continue to clean your teeth carefully omitting the immediate wound area.
- If, against all expectations, secondary bleeding should set in, place a mull bandage or, if not available, a clean handkerchief on the wound, bite on it so that it has a compressing effect. Do not lie down but remain seated. If the bleeding does not stop after one to two hours, contact your dentist or the emergency service. By no means rinse or constantly spit out!
- In case of tumefaction do not apply warmth!
Cool the wound area for two to three hours as follows: 20 minutes cooling, 20 minutes break, 20 minutes cooling etc. It is best to use a cooling cushion or alternatively a plastic bag or hot water bottle filled with crushed ice cubes.
- In case of tumefaction contact your dentist for further treatment.
- Keep in mind that your fitness to drive may be reduced especially when you have additionally taken medicine. If a swab has been placed on the fresh wound bite on it for an hour and then spit it out.
